Math Madness Wednesday: World Series

October 21, 2014 by Krista Leave a Comment

This week’s Math Madness Wednesday is coming to you a day early!  Why?  Because the World Series starts TONIGHT and that is the topic of this week’s linky!
I grew up playing softball every summer.  My dad played on a softball league, and my brother and I always played too.  We grew up in Ohio, so we were big Cincinnati Reds fans.  I still remember the last time they won the World Series.  I was able to stay up late to watch the game and I recall a bit of yelling and running through the house screaming!  Now that I live in California, I am happy to say that the San Francisco Giants have once again made it to the World Series this year!  While I always love the home-team, I also really like the “Cinderella” story of the Kansas City Royals.  They haven’t been to the World Series since 1985, so I don’t know that there can be a “bad” winner this year.
If your kids are”all about that BASE”ball, you are going to love this week’s resources!  I have 2 separate packs on Educents this week.  One is for the younger kids (K-1) and one is for the older kids (3rd-6th).  They both include FUN ways to add baseball to your lessons this week, or anytime!

For the little ones, here are my baseball tens frames game.  I have included an addition version as well as a subtraction version.  The gameboards are available in color or black/white, so you can copy them no matter what your printing situation might be.  These games are played like my other versions of tens frames addition and subtraction.  Students spin, cover, and solve!  Spinners are included, but I have found that kids enjoy using a paperclip and a pencil even more than the spinners!
For the big kids, I have made an all-inclusive pack that hits reading, map skills, reading a chart, and, of course, MATH!  Students will get the chance to review some addition and subtraction facts with story problems.  If they are up for more of a challenge, there is also sheets for finding the batting average of ACTUAL MLB players.  If you really want to hit current events while teaching, I have included a chart for them to fill out and figure out the batting averages as the games go on!

Both of these will be available from Educents until October 30, so make sure to head over there to grab them at a GREAT deal!  Of course, you can get them from my TPT store as well.

Find some more ways to incorporate baseball into your classroom by checking out my Pinterest board {HERE}.

How do YOU use baseball (or other sports) in the classroom?  I would LOVE to hear from you!
