Make Your Own Bulletin Boards: The Creative Giveaway, part 2

August 8, 2014 by Krista 16 Comments

It is time for the CRAFTY Teacher Blog Hop again!  If you weren’t around for the last one, here is how it works.  Several of my teacher friends and I have put together some DIY tips for the classroom.  Not only do we show you HOW to do it, we also GIVE AWAY one of our creations to one lucky winner!

This time, I decided to create some bulletin board frames.  I had some random picture frames and bought some more on clearance at Wal-Mart for under $1 each.  I was looking for some things to do with them and decided to dress up all of my sticky notes that I have lying around on my work station!  It was really pretty easy and not to expensive either!

What you need:
Cork board (I bought a pack of 4 square ones from Wal-Mart)
Fabric (use leftover pieces OR find small packs, like these quilt packs I purchased at Wal-Mart)
Glue gun
Glue
Scissors
Picture frames, various sizes (with or without the glass fronts)

Here is how to do it:

First, I took out the small cardboard behind the picture in the frame.  I used that as a template for cutting my corkboard.  I traced around that cardboard piece with a Sharpie marker.

After carefully cutting the cork board, I used it as a loose template for the fabric.  Just make sure there is a little extra on each side so the fabric will cover the edges as well as the front of the cork board.

I used a glue gun to attach each edge of fabric to the corkboard.  I did try to just pull the edges around without attaching it, but the fabric got way too loose and did not look as good.  However, I did try small edges and larger edges and either one works pretty well.  On the green fabric (larger edges), I still used hot glue, but I did not need nearly as much!

After finishing all of these frames, I tried to figure out what I was going to do with all of these extra glass fronts.  I decided to make one more frame and use this one as a dry erase board.  It can serve as a little place to add last minute reminders or for a favorite quote!

Here are the final products!
You can win your choice of brown framed board or dry erase frame!  Enter below for your chance to win.  The winner must be a classroom teacher or homeschooler.  Due to shipping constraints, the winner must live within the contiguous United States.  You will be contacted if you are the winner and will have 5 days to respond to give mailing instructions or an alternate winner will be selected.  All entries will be verified.  Good luck!
Be sure to continue HOPPING to see some Fantastic DIY projects!  Next, you will get to see the clock made by Melissa at The Teacher Treasure Hunter.

The paper choices are beautiful. I would use the frame or board for making my list of positive phone calls home.

Hang it inside my door with the Command Velcro strips and tack up posters, notices, notes, etc. that come from the office while I teach (nothing private of course). That way I can continue to teach and post the information more permanently when I have time without losing them on my podium or desk!!!

I would use these boards for reminder notes for myself and/or my husband. We both need notes to remind us of what we need to work on classroom wise with our son, and this would be the perfect thing to help us out!

These are adorable! I would totally use them in my classroom for reminders, a hot word of the day or as an announcement. The cork boards would be really cute to post a picture or a tweet or a sweet note for either myself or for the students. I could post the best tweet for a week or something!
